code (kōd) n. 2 any set of principles or rules of conduct¹
Every genealogist should read the following codes of ethics and put them into practice whether they are a professional or not, certified or not, or accredited or not.
- Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) Code of Ethics
- Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) Code of Ethics
- National Genealogical Society (NGS) Guidelines for Sharing Information with Others
- The International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen) Professional Ethics
Another great resource is the Genealogy Standards: Fiftieth Anniversary Edition by the BCG
